About Robin

What do you need to know about Robin?

Life takes funny twists and turns. Some purposeful, others by accident but no matter we arrive at our destination there is always a story to tell. First and foremost, I am not a professional blogger, I do not make money from this. Blogging is a way for me to support my foodie ways and to showcase the Polish pottery that my company imports from Boleslawiec, Poland. I am working on multiple cookbooks and other projects which might one day make me a few dollars but I’m not here to inundate you with ads and annoying pop ups. I just want to share my food with you. If you decide to try out some of my pottery along the way, great!

Background in Corporate Marketing

My background is in marking. I left that career right as COVID was becoming a thing. I realized that it was time to take the little business that I had been cultivating for over 20 years into a full time thing. It was now or never. My children are grow and working on careers and families of their own. The only thing I knew is that I was done working to make other people wealthy.

When I left the corporate world in late 2019 I was the Chief Marking Office for a global company. We were more than 60 countries and our marketing portfolio was vast. Before that I was the Director of Digital Marketing for an agency out of Toronto overseeing many clientele. It seemed like the right time to make my background work for me. I have never been happier and I have never looked back.

What Else Makes me Interesting?

There are in fact other things that make me interesting. I have done a lot of moving. Sometimes for the military, sometimes for a job and sometimes just because. Places I have called home include my hometown of Chicago, Florida, Georgia (Savannah!), New York, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Nevada and Germany.

I created a very successful blog in the past that caught the attention of people at Wick Communications who helped me turn that into a successful quarterly magazine. I owned a brick and mortar store (I have since closed that store). Over the years I have had other entrepreneurial pursuits through the years. In fact I recall being barely 20 and working on my first business.

I am an old school gamer and my love for Nintendo has not faded. It’s not uncommon to see me wearing my Legends of Zelda shirt. I consider myself an amateur photographer (I shoot with a Canon 9D) and artist (think mosaics). I am always looking for something new to learn and create (currently watercolor and stained glass making). You will probably find areas on this blog that highlight some of my work. Other things I love include Totoro and most Hayao Miyazaki work, Robin Hobb and Stephen King books, star wars, socks, most things that sparkle and finally I am an avid pet lover.

What is the most important thing you should know?

Finally the most important thing you should know about me is that after much thought my partner and I moved to Sequim, Washington. We are loving life here in the Pacific Northwest. This is important because it really does influence everything I do. From my food and recipes to how and where we travel. It is not an understatement to say that we are in paradise.

One of the things you will notice on this blog is an abundance of recipes that include both fresh fish and game meat along with locally sourced ingredients. We fill our own freezers with what we hunt and fish so if there is a beef recipe on there you will most likely find a version using Antelope, Elk or Deer. It’s a really fun aspect of food to explore and while I know there are many people unfamiliar with those types of meats, they can always be translated to work for more traditional known things like beef or pork.
